The Dean Model

The Dean Model is a distributed leadership structure that surrounds the principal with three experienced educators able to dedicate additional time to the development of teachers and the implementation of key learning strategies. Deans observe teachers in their classrooms weekly and offer one on one coaching that develops the skills of teachers and fosters improved rates of student learning. Deans also serve as advocates for best practice helping principals to promote new initiatives ensuring that they are adopted with fidelity.

Candidates interested in applying to the position of dean should have at least two years of classroom experience during which they achieved high rates of student learning. Experience as a grade level leader or school wide coordinator is desired.

Leadership Academy

NHA’s School Leadership Academy is a professional development opportunity for faculty interested in achieving a principal position. Program participants refine their leadership skills and expand their knowledge in areas key to success as an NHA principal. The program is designed to engage current and future leaders through discussions with colleagues that focus on curriculum, assessment, instruction, staff management, developing school culture and more. In addition to group discussions, participants visit a number of schools, both NHA and externally operated, to see the principles studied applied in school settings.
